
Melissa Crystal O'Neil, born on July 12 1988[1,] is a Canadian actor and singer from Canada. O'Neil was the first Canadian female winner of Canadian Idol's 3rd season, took home the trophy in 2005. O'Neil is primarily known as an actress due to her roles on Syfy as Two / Rebecca/ Portia Lin as well as on ABC as Officer Lucy Chen in the ABC procedural drama series The Rookie. She was voted in the bottom three spots and two of the finals. The judges were shocked and recommended that viewers cast their votes for Melissa O'Neil, who was clearly the most enthusiastic contestant. O'Neil's performances were always praised and O'Neil did not slip back into the bottom three. Zack Werner, the judge, declared O'Neil "a chance to win the whole thing". The 7th of September, 2005 O'Neil was able to make it into the final two contestants of the show, competing alongside Rex Goudie. After some more impressive performances the judge Werner famously declared that the headlines in the following day's papers would be "The King, Kalan Porter has passed away, long live the Queen." O'Neil defeated Goudie in the grand finale results showon the 14th of September, 2005. O'Neil was also crowned the third Canadian Idol and the first female winner.
